Meet Ken Racen, the New Head of Service
 

Ken Racen, the new Head of Service at BC Group International, started at a young age in the metrology industry, learning all he could about electronics, including calibration and repair of measuring and test equipment from veteran metrologists. He decided to go to college, studying electrical engineering and business management. After fourteen years of managing a commercial calibration laboratory in St. Louis, Missouri, Ken moved to Southern California where he furthered his knowledge and experience in Electrical, Dimensional, Temperature, Pressure, Flow and other metrology disciplines. Ken had the unique opportunity to work in the Nuclear utility and Medical Device industry with some very talented people. There he learned more about Quality Systems such as ISO/IEC 17025, FDA, 21 CFR 820, ISO 13485, cGMP and 21 CFR part 50 Appendix B, including how they applied to calibration and manufacturing processes. This, in turn, lead Ken to hone his technical skills and become a ASQ Certified Calibration Technician, Certified Biomedical Auditor and Certified Continuous Improvement Specialist utilizing Lean Six Sigma tools to improve manufacturing methods and processes.Ken Racen, Head of Service


Ken started his career in the calibration industry in 1979, working for Industrial Service Laboratories, a St. Louis based commercial calibration laboratory. During his tenure at ISL, Ken took on several roles over the course of 14 years, including Calibration Technician, Quality and Service Manager, leading to VP of Service. In the mid 90’s, Ken managed sales of capital metrology equipment for one of the world’s largest manufacturer of dimensional measuring equipment. After, Ken entered the nuclear utility industry specializing in primary level metrology disciplines, and later advanced to the medical device industry, with emphasis in quality engineering and laboratory management.

 

Outside of work, Ken enjoys boating, especially ocean sailing with his family and friends. He also likes riding his motorcycle through the countryside. In his spare tim, Ken gravitates towards restoring vintage cars and tractors, as well as home improvement projects. When he has time and is feeling creative, Ken also enjoys graphic design and website development.

 

Since starting with BC Group in November, Ken’s primary focus has been getting to know the team members, learning about company procedures and processes and identifying areas that need improvement. Ken has implemented several changes designed to improve Quality, enhance Customer Service, promote Training and emphasize Good Documentation Practices (GDP).

 

When it comes to maintaining the BC Service Calibration Laboratory, Ken states, “All of our calibration services are driven by Quality Standards and Regulations. Our challenge is to provide our customers with the highest quality calibrations, that meet or exceed their quality requirements while providing a quick turn-around time at a competitive price.”

 

BC Group International offers a One-Stop Shop for new equipment, as well as provides calibration and repair services for virtually all biomedical and general-purpose test and measuring equipment. BC Service’s calibration laboratory is ISO-9001, ANSI Z540-1 Certified and ISO/IEC 17025 Accredited. BC Group provides on-site calibration services to over 220 hospitals and healthcare facilities nationwide, and in-house calibration laboratory provides metrology services for some of the top U.S. and International healthcare providers.

 

BC Group’s service department provides complete OEM calibration and repair services on BC Biomedical and Ohmic products. The flat-rate repair system provides customers with a fixed price that covers most failures, eliminates unnecessary delays and provides comprehensive repair service, including; 

• A full evaluation of the unit
• Repair and/or replacement of defective or substandard elements
• Restores unit to OEM specifications and operating conditions
• Test and if necessary replace standard batteries
• Minor cosmetic repairs and cleaning
• Perform all applicable hardware / firmware upgrades
• Perform OEM testing and burn in
• Flat Rate Repairs carry a 6-month, limited warranty

 

The future of BC Service will only continue to improve as Ken is focusing on improving quality compliance through automating calibrations and upgrading BC Service’s existing Metrology database with a system which will streamline its processes, enhance customer service and provide customers access to their calibration information via website.
